First of all, how exactly has it been a whole year since our last Simple Beauty Shoot? Time flies when you’re having fun I suppose, and we definitely had a whole bunch of fun, a whole lot of tea, and lots of gorgeous (and sparkly! You can’t forget sparkly!) mineral makeup to play around with again this year.
In fact, it was so much fun that we wanted to bring you along for a little peek behind the scenes at our day and what all exactly goes into the photos you see on the SBM website!
One of the most fantastic things ever about the shoot is getting to play with ALL THE MAKEUP! It’s basically a makeup lovers dream come true– all the pretty little pots laid out according to color, all the makeup brushes you could dream of, and (my favorite part!) we even got to test out some (seriously incredible!) new samples of soon to be announced colors and products. Lisa does an amazing job at laying out all of the makeup and the tools, and it is not only beautiful to look at, but it is such a fun opportunity to have every single color you could imagine right at your fingertips…
Kasey works her artistry on Taru.
While we were doing our makeup, Kasey helped out with picking out colors and bringing her artistry to many of the eyeshadow looks– it is always so cool to see what she comes up with, and as you will see below– the girl’s got some serious talent! We all sipped on our teas of choice, chatted, laughed, and had a ton of fun getting ready together.Time For Photos
We had a bunch of balloons in the signature Simple Beauty Minerals colors of purple and green (of course!) that we wanted to add in for some fun photos, and wealmost had a little too much fun with them (just see for yourself below… heehee!).
It's not as easy as you think to pop your head through a mound of moving balloons!
We all brought our best 'white' (or light beige/cream) shirt depending on what went best with our skin tone and coloring, and we all wore those for the group photos– these were some of the most fun shots of the day because we got to walk around and try to laugh “on cue”, which starts out a little awkward but then ends up making you *really* laugh because of how silly it feels, and makes for some great shots and a great way to kick off the photos!
After the group photos, we split into mini groups and pairings, and also got a lot of solo shots done both of the makeup looks up close, and some more lifestyle shots and candid shots as we went. (Keep your eye out for a couple funny "behind the scenes" shots… they might not make it onto the website– ha!– but they were too good to not share on the blog!)

We started shooting about an hour and a half before golden hour, so we ended up with a mix of some really gorgeous sun-kissed photos in the brighter light earlier on, and then some really gorgeous photos that highlight the beauty of the makeup especially well in the diffused, soft golden hour light (the photos below of Kasey and of Lisa at the fence are the perfect example of these!).
By the time the sun was almost gone, we were totally wiped– it was a full day of shooting with barely a spare moment in between, but it was so much fun and so satisfying to get all of the awesome photos at the end of it.
We are so thankful for our awesome models and all the members of our Simple Beauty family! It’s always incredible to see how these fabulously real women take on the job description of “model” for a day and make it their own. I love watching them totally own it, and I love the gorgeous images that we get to capture from these real women, real friendships, and real Simple Beauty teammates.
