Nail polish is one of my absolute favorite things. Ever. Since I was little, I’m pretty sure that at least a couple new nail polish colors have always been on my Christmas list, and I even have a dedicated nail polish filing box where I keep my beloved polish stash. In the array of colorful polishes, however, I have a (perhaps!) seemingly disproportionate number of clear polishes, as well… It may seem strange, but secretly, these clear polishes are the most colorful of them all! Let me explain. One of best kept beauty secrets, in my honest opinion, is how easy it is to make your very own nail polish shades– whatever color your heart desires, whenever you so desire it! And it just so happens that the gorgeous, vibrant, loose pigment pots of mineral makeup are the perfectcandidates for mixing up your very own nail polish creations. So I thought I’d share a tutorial with you to show you just easy it is to mix up your own festive shade to get party ready, or even just in the holiday spirit this season! This tutorial is so easy that you’ll only need two things: a clear nail polish, and the SBM mineral eyeshadow (or blush of bronzer, etc.!) of your choice!
A quick word on the polish you choose– we recommend doing your research and finding a brand that contains the healthiest and safest ingredients possible so that you can paint your nails with peace of mind– one brand that is easy to find in stores and that Lisa and I personally recommend is Butter LONDON! (But as you’ll find, there are several options out there!)
I love metallic polishes, and they are one of my–and my mom’s! (haha!)– all time favorite nail polish trends. We are obsessed! I’ve never had a copper metallic nail before, so I decided to go for SBM’s Copper Glam Mineral Eyeshadow to color my polish!
2. Pour the polish out onto a piece of paper to mix it up. If you want to make an entire bottle of the same color, you could just mix right in the bottle– but I just wanted to make one “application”, so I chose to mix it outside. I recommend mixing it on a sheet of paper placed on top of some paper towels so it doesn’t bleed through, because mixing nail polish on plastic, metal, or wood can become a disaster pretty quick (especially if it messes up the finish on wood, or starts to dry!).

3. Eyeball a good ratio of pigment to polish,
4. Mix it up, and apply it on your nails like you would any other nail polish! It goes on easy and smooth– just make sure to mix all the pigment into the polish before you begin so you don’t get a little “surprise” pocket of dry pigment while you’re painting!
After you finish applying it, I recommend cleaning off the nail polish brush with some nail polish remover to get all of the color off, and then letting it dry before you put it back in the original clear bottle so as to not cross-contaminate the color– but other than that, there you go!
Beautiful nails in any color you can dream up– who could ask for more? The fact that it’s easy as cake just makes it even better. So what are you waiting for? Go mix up your own gorgeous mineral-pigment-polish-creation, and if you do, we’d love to see what gorgeous new shades you come up with! Here is an earlier post on painting your nails with powder minerals. Polish away! ;)
Til next time, xx Abby
