Comparison: Five Eyeshadow Highlights

Comparison: Five Eyeshadow Highlights

Get To Know Five Of Our Most Popular Eyeshadow Highlights.

It can be tricky to really see all of the subtleties and varying depths of color in a shade of eyeshadow while you’re browsing through images on your computer screen.

So I wanted to take the opportunity to help you *really*, truly “get to know” 5 of our most popular highlights.

Since highlighting shades are light, when you are only seeing them as they appear on your screen or in the pot itself, it can be tough to know exactly what they will look like applied to skin (or, hello, your eyelids!).

You might wonder how sheer they will be, or not be able to tell exactly how much color they add to your look– or if they will mostly just blend in with your skin.

What is an Eyeshadow Highlight?

An eyeshadow highlight is one you would use to 'pop' an area of your eye in order to bring it forth, or 'highlight' it.

For example, just under the brow - to open up your eye and finish off your look.

On the lid, the moveable part of your eye, to balance out your look.

Even added to the inner area of your eye to lighten up and bring forth that area that tends to darken and deepen.

Color Nuances

Depending on what you are looking for, these little nuances can be super important!

Perhaps you want to see a gorgeous shimmer on your eye.

Or you may choose to go with a more subtly elegant highlight to simply brighten up your look.

Alternatively, you may be looking for the best highlight to complement a specific favorite everyday eyeshadow.

Without seeing them side by side, it can be tricky. So here you go!

Comparison: Whisper. Glitz. Simple Basics. Champagne Ice. Bliss.

Here I swatch Whisper, Glitz, Simple Basics, Champagne Ice, and Bliss on a couple of different surfaces as well as lined up next to each other in their pots to give you the very best idea of how these highlights stack up next to one another– and to give you an idea of how they look in different lighting and different situations.

I promise, by the end of this post you are going to be an expert on these 5 shades!

First, let’s “meet” these four highlighting beauties!

Whisper

Whisper is a basic, go-to, creamy matte beige shadow. Think of it as your white slip of eye makeup! Whisper is the fully matte version of Glitz.

Glitz

Glitz is a soft, cool beige-toned white; it’s semi-matte with a light sheen– please note: it is not a true, "bright" white, although it is definitely closer to white than it is to a true beige.

Note from Lisa: Glitz and Whisper are lovely for cool skin tones.

Simple Basics

Simple Basics is a soft, light, creamy beige. It leans a little peachy, and is definitely a warmer beige– although (as you can see below) it is very light and universally flattering. It is mostly matte with the tiniest flecks of shimmer– so gorgeous!

Champagne Ice is an undeniably shimmery, soft, warm, muted golden highlight. Just check out that shimmers in the “with flash” comparison swatch photo below!

Bliss

Bliss is another super dreamy and decidedly shimmery beigey-rose highlight.

I think of this as my “pink highlight” although the rose/pink is quite subtle, it lends a gorgeous soft glow to the overall highlight. Just see the pictures below!

Investment Pieces

Highlights are some of the best investments as far as eye shadows you can have in your collection– they can be used as all over colors on lighter days, and they are always a “must” to complete any eye shadow look by brightening up your brow bone or the inner corner of your eye.

The most used eyeshadows in my collection are Simple Basics and Bliss; I use them nearly every single day– they are my go-to highlights when it comes to any eye look since I can pretty much use either one with nearly any and all of my shadows!

Lately, I have been loving Bliss all by itself swept over my entire lid when I’m in a rush, or pairing it as my highlight with Hot Cocoa on my lid and in my crease.
