K-Beauty with Mineral Makeup

K-Beauty with Mineral Makeup

“K beauty” (Korean Beauty) has truly taken off internationally over the past decade, and especially within the last couple of years it seems to be almost everywhere you look.

It’s easy to see why!

With the heavy focus on a good skin care routine and simple, natural, glowing makeup that builds upon that base, K Beauty offers innovative approaches on back-to-basics skincare and makeup.

Ring a bell?

Solid Skincare First

Here at the Simple Beauty Blog we are all about a solid skincare routine that sets up your makeup routine for success– and we are all about simple, natural, and glowing makeup that lets your natural beauty shine through!

That said, we thought it would be fun to give our take on our favorite K Beauty trends, Simple Beauty Minerals style!

The results?

Match Made In Heaven

Mineral makeup and K Beauty are basically a match made in heaven.

Check out our list of K Beauty trends below, and maybe even get inspired to add a new trick or two to your mineral makeup routine!

  1. Go for the Glow. K beauty is all about glowing, radiant skin. Dewy, minimalistic foundation is by far the most popular– almost no matte foundation in sight. There is even a trend called “glass skin” that aims to mimic the perfect, glossy sheen of glass all over the face for an ultra-dewy finish! The first step to a radiant and dewy finish is to moisturize well so that your skin is nourished and hydrated– we recommend our Olive Oil Light Lotion as a first step. Next, you can either skip your foundation completely, or add on a light dusting for a natural, fresh look. I finished off with an all-over dusting of our Silk Splendor Finish Powder for an extra boost of glowy radiance!

  1. Show some Shimmer. Starting to sense a theme? Shimmery neutrals and pinks are by far the most popular eyeshadow colors in Korea, with an ultra-shimmery light copper being one of the most on-trend eyeshadow choices right now. Fawn Mineral Eyeshadow is practically an exact duplicate of the eyeshadow I keep seeing over and over again in K beauty looks! It’s oh-so-easy to apply– just sweep across your entire lid– that’s it!

  1. Brighten Up. Right under your lower lash line, to be specific. Adding a light white or super light beige under the lash line is a popular look throughout K-Beauty as it opens up the eye area making it look bigger and brighter. You will see this trick used without any eyeliner added on the lash line, or with a white liner on the lower lash line, but never with a dark liner on the lash line! I used Whisper Mineral Eyeshadow and our Fine Angle Brush for a soft brightening effect.

  1. Fruit Juice Lips. Possibly the biggest trend in K Beauty right now are these subtle, gradient, juice-inspired lips. Almost as if you were sucking on a popsicle, and just a little color was left behind, focused in the center and blending softly outwards– this trend is called “Fruit Juice Makeup” and can be used on eyelids and cheeks as well, but the lip is by far the most popular! I applied a little bit of Pink Sorbet Mineral Rich Lipstick on my finger, and dabbed it onto my lips starting and focusing on the center, and carefully working my way outward. There should be very little color if any near the edges of your lips, and even the color in the center should be understated and natural so as to give a subtle gradient.

5. Blushing Beauties. K-Beauty tends to favor a very different blush application style than what we are used to in the US– rather than focusing mostly on the cheeks, blush is typically applied under the eyes, up towards the temple, and it’s even common to apply it across the bridge of the nose. This was one of the most fun trends to play around with– I think you will see why if you give it a try! It results in a sweet, fresh-faced, and cheery look that is perfect for Spring– and it also happens to pair perfectly with our Perfect Blush Brush (and I used Rosalee Cheek Color for my blush in this post)!
