How To Highlight

Highlighting for Real Skin
Highlighting isn't about chasing the blinding, glazed-donut glow (unless you want that, it's your face, your rules!). It's about bringing a little light and lift to areas of your face that could use a boost, especially as our skin matures and gets a little less naturally dewey and bouncy.
Let's talk about using highlighter in two ways:
With shimmer – for a luminous, polished glow
Without shimmer – for a soft-focus, brightening, natural lift
Both look stunning on mature skin—you just need to know a few easy tricks.
The Basics of Where to Highlight
Let’s keep it simple. You’re placing light where the sun naturally hits your face:
- Tops of your cheekbones
- Brow bones
- Inner corners of your eyes
- Down the bridge of your nose (avoid the tip)
- Cupids' bow (that little dip above your lips)
- Center of the chin

Option 1: With Shimmer – A Soft, Glowing Touch

Don’t be afraid of shimmer! The trick is to go for a refined, finely-milled mineral shimmer—not glitter. My favorite look is one that catches the light subtly when you turn your head, not one that’s visible from across the room.
How to do it:
- Use a soft fluffy brush or even your fingertip
- Lightly tap the product on, don't swirl or buff. Think "press and glow".
- Build gradually. You want a soft gleam when light hits your face, not a stripe.
Pro tip: Choose a shade that’s close to your natural skin tone. Possible choices are Satin Sheen, Silk Splendor, Goddess Glimmer. By the way, eye shadow pigments work here. Try Bliss Mineral Eyeshadow as a possibility.

Option 2: Without Shimmer – The Subtle Lift

Maybe shimmer just isn’t your thing, or maybe you love it, but not every day. That’s where matte or satin-finish highlighters (or even a light mineral Finish Powder) come in. These don’t sparkle, but they do brighten. It’s like turning the lights on in just the right places.
How to do it:
- Use a light mineral finish powder or pressed powder that's a half shade lighter than your foundation.
- Apply with a soft brush to the same highlight zones (cheekbones, brow bone, inner corners of your eyes, and down the nose).
This method give you a very natural, soft-focus glow, no shimmer in sight, but your skin looks lifted and alive.
Try this: My Bright Eyes Pink Concealer and Corrector is a beautiful option here. It’s ultra-fine and diffuses light naturally—think glow without the sparkle. You can even press it under your eyes for a brightening effect that doesn’t crease. You can also try our Concealers in a shade lighter than your foundation, or a lighter shade foundation or finish powder. Get creative. Play and have fun.
