Mysterious Eyes (with Video)

Mysterious Eyes (with Video)

This look is quick. It’s easy. But it totally brings the drama.

Dramatic Eyes. Simple Application. That’s because you are about to witness firsthand the power of *foiling*... What is foiling? I’m glad you asked! It’s one of my favorite methods for mineral eyeshadow (and mineral eyeliner) application when using dark or bright colors because it allows you to really pack on the pigment for the same intensity and “wow” factor that you see in the pot.
It allows you to really pack on the pigment for the same intensity and “wow” factor that you see in the pot.
As you know, loose mineral shadows blend out really well– almost too well when you really want a deep, intense color. Luckily by using this wet application method to get incredible color and coverage you can have your cake and eat it, too. And did I mention how easy it is? It’s hardly more work than applying your normal everyday eyeshadow, and after you have your color all mixed up it can be even quicker– it glides on so easily and there’s no need for multiple layers to darken it up! Basically, all you need is your Simple Beauty Minerals Eyeshadows of choice and a little water.

We chose Mystery Mineral Eye Shadow

Mystery is a duochrome dark silver/blue/purple shimmer that will leave you totally enchanted!
Tap your shadow into it's lid, and then add a drop or two of water and swirl it around with your brush until it is the perfect consistency.

Sheer Iridescent Glow or Super Pigmented Coverage?

If you want a sheer, iridescent glow you can add a little extra water for a super thin consistency, or if you want super pigmented coverage you can add a little less and really pack on the color. Whatever color you see as you are mixing is essentially the color that will transfer onto your lids– so if it’s too light or sheer (too much water!) just tap a little more shadow into the mix, and vice versa. Now, you’re ready to foil.

So let’s jump into the tutorial!

It’s all about Mystery Mineral Eyeshadow. And let me tell you, this is a seriously gorgeous shadow. Although it’s nearly impossible to capture this quality in pictures, Mystery is a duochrome dark silver/blue/purple shimmer that will leave you totally enchanted! Especially when it’s foiled, when light hits it will gleam blue then purple off and on (all the while with its deep silvery tones shining through). It’s just so pretty…! Because this color is already so stunning as a standalone, let's not complicate this look too much. Instead, Let's keep it simple to really focus on how gorgeous Mystery is (especially when foiled!). All you’ll need for this is:

+ tools

I began with my face makeup already done (I applied my Simple Beauty Minerals Perfect Cover Mineral Foundation and then set it with my Silk Finish Powder, as well as applying a touch of Natural Glow Mineral Bronzer as my blush, as well as defining my brows with Deep Earth Brow Powder) and chose to apply a base of Simple Basics Mineral Eye Shadow all over my lids with my Crease Brush to create an even canvas for me to foil over with Mystery. I find it’s easier to get the wet shadow to stick when there is a dry, matte base for it to adhere to rather than applying it directly to my skin.

Next, mix up your Mystery shadow with a couple drops of water to create your foiling “potion”, and set to work! I like to use a wide, flat brush for this step because it really helps me to pat down my wet shadow in an even layer. Using a fluffy brush or a round brush will make this step difficult, and they may absorb more of your product, leaving you with a thinner application and less coverage overall– so I recommend investing in a good flat shading brush (like this one!!) if you have not already.

After the foiling was dry, I went in with my Crease Brush again and ran a little Champagne Ice Mineral Shadow around the edges of the foiling to blend it out a tiny bit, and to add in a little sparkle. You can definitely skip this step if you prefer, but hey– I like to add a little extra sparkle to just about everything (can you blame me?), and I think it rounded out the look really beautifully.

Last but not least, I went in and lined my upper lids with our Soft Black Mineral Liner using the Fine Angle Brush. You can apply this wet as well, however since I had already foiled my lids I decided to apply it dry and smudge it out a little. And, of course, you’re not done until you have your mascara! I curled my lashes (never skip this step! It makes the biggest difference!) and then applied a couple of layers of Black Magic Healthy Mascara.

And that’s it! I love this look, and  love how not only does foiling give you an amazing pop of that intense mineral shadow color– but it also stays on SO well! This lasted perfectly until I took it off before bed with no creasing to boot– hmm...remind me to do this more often!
