Polish Those Lips!

The secret to a perfect lipstick application is all in… Your lips!

And while I’m sure this isn’t ground-breaking news to anyone, prepping our lips before we apply lipstick (or a Simple Beauty Minerals Lip Gloss) is something that– if you’re anything like me– you tend to skip over or even just forget completely.

Prep Those Lips

However, prepping your lips with an easy diy lip scrub before you apply lipstick can be just as important as curling your lashes before you apply mascara. And similarly, you won’t realize what a huge difference it can make until you’ve tried it and seen for yourself how much better it looks and feels to do it “right”! What am I talking about here? Lip scrubs, of course!

Easy DIY Lip Scrub

Over the years I have found myself every now and then with especially dry or chapped lips and in search of a good lip scrub to solve the dilemma of my parched pout. In the Winter, my lips can get chapped from super windy, chilly days spent outdoors– but in the Summer, they can also get chapped from days at the beach when I don’t re-apply enough sunscreen, or even just from the super windy walks that Jack and I like to take along the sand dune trail overlooking the coastline in the evening. Even just little things like breathing through your mouth when you are sleeping, or licking your lips too much can cause chapped lips. In short, it’s always good to have a lip scrub and a soothing lip balm on hand (or on lips)!

Even if your lips aren’t chapped, using a lip scrub before applying a lip color will make your lips super smooth and soft, and even them out for a silky, beautiful color application. It is the difference between curling your lashes,... or not, before you apply mascara– it’s huge, but you’d never know it til you try…!

Natural and Organic

All that said, it can be tough to find a truly natural and organic lip scrub on the market. I have come across way too many icky and unnecessary ingredients in even the simplest sugar scrubs– who would think it?!

DIY

Luckily, I’m about to show you how incredibly easy it is to make your very own 3 ingredient and 100% natural & safe lip scrub. It takes less than a minute to whip up, and it leaves your lips so silky and smooth that you will love me for sharing this little recipe with you!

What you need

All you need is: sugar honey and jojoba oil (or olive oil, or sweet almond oil… or your lip-compatible oil of choice!) That’s it!

I will say, you will get a better result if you use a granulated sugar with a coarser grain– not the super finely ground bright white stuff. Natural cane sugar is your best bet here. Oh, and grab this too Before you start, you will want to find a little container to store your left-overs in. Because I make lip balm and lip shimmers all the time I just happen to have a bunch of little such containers lying around, however any small container with a lid will do– probably a leftover cosmetics container, or even a leftover lip balm pot that is now empty. In a pinch, you can always just use a small tupperware-type container, or even a ziploc if you have no other options– but I will caution you that a ziploc will get quite messy!

Do it

Alright! All that’s left is to mix 1 part honey, 1 part sugar, and 1 part jojoba oil… and ta-da! You very own DIY lip scrub is ready for business.

Once it’s mixed up, just apply a small amount to your lips and rub it in gently in small circular motions (or rub your lips together) until you get your desired result (if your lips are super chapped, you might want to do this a couple of times in a row), then just wipe off with a warm, damp washcloth and you are good to go!

Bonus

Plus, if you get a little in your mouth or accidentally lick some of it off– no worries! There’s nothing icky about this lip scrub– something which is especially important when you might end up eating some of it (as with all products you apply on your lips)!

So Simple

I love how simple and super easy this is. You probably already have all of the ingredients lying around in your kitchen, and I bet it will take you under a minute flat to mix it all up and be ready to polish up your lips right away!
