What is a makeup primer?

Updated 2-2019

Primer has been around for as long as there have been models and professional makeup artists, but it is only in the last few years that it has hit the mainstream.

What is a mineral-based primer?

Our pure mineral makeup foundation primers will create a smooth, silky, canvas for your most flawless makeup application ever.

A good primer such as Simple Beauty Minerals Pure Primer or Embellish Pro Aging Primer will prepare your skin for foundation by smoothing out fine lines and minimizing your pores.

Your foundation will stay on longer and you will, in turn, use less of your makeup.

Bonus: By using this primer, you can increase the benefits and effectiveness of your anti-aging products, because it holds them on your skin. Check in with Dr. Oz on this one.

Do YOU Need a Makeup Primer?

First off, not everyone will benefit from primer, but there are those of us who will wonder what we have done with out it for so long.

  • Oily skins will find that it absorbs excess oil, and will prevent their makeup from sliding off.
  • Those with acne scaring or redness, such as rosacea, will find it tones down the red and fills in the uneven patches.
  • If you live in a humid climate, primer will be your best friend. Luckily, Simple Beauty Minerals Primer can be used by most everyone, as it is virtually colorless.

Our Pure Primer contains three ingredients only: mica, arrowroot and pearl powder, all of which are naturally occurring in nature.

Our Pro Aging Embellish Primer is a treatment and makeup primer all in one. Containing multiple beneficial ingredients to not only prime your makeup application but to help improve your overall complexion.

Why Would You Use a Mineral Makeup Primer As Opposed To A Traditional Primer?

Most primers on the market are silicon based and most likely will contain waxes, and polymers. If you have contact dermatitis, allergies or milia, I recommend staying away from these particular primers.

Instead use a mineral primer with safe ingredients, such as mica and arrowroot ( and NO nano-particles).

 How Do You Use Primer?

  1. After your face is cleansed, toned, serumed (is that a word?) and moisturized, apply your primer.
  2. Be sure to use the correct brush for the desired effect: For a light dusting all over the face, use a dedicated kabuki or powder brush. For more concentrated coverage, use a concealer brush in the spots you most want to cover.
  3. Gently buff your primer over your entire face. Follow with your foundation.
