Quick Tip for Flawless Foundation Application (With Video)
That smooth and flawless mineral foundation look.
Here is how to achieve it.
Just make sure that your moisturizer has had time to settle into your skin for a few minutes before applying any makeup over top of it.
Something that many women who are new to mineral makeup may not know when first starting out is important it is to let your daily moisturizer (and eye cream/sunscreen!) absorb fully into your skin before going ahead and applying your mineral foundation.
This is important because:
- it allows your moisturizer, sunscreen, and any other skin care products to absorb uniformly into your skin;
- it prevents your foundation from being transferred around during your makeup application;
- it helps your makeup application become unevenly distributed;
- your foundation will apply smoothly and melt into your skin
Dry on Wet
As you can imagine, if you layer a dry powder-based product like mineral foundation on top of a wet area it will be very difficult to buff out and move around because as soon as the dry product hits the wet area it will absorb the moisture and become difficult to buff evenly into the skin.
Put it To The Test
For a quick demonstration I applied Olive Oil Light Lotion to my entire forearm, and then immediately after applied Ultra Light Mineral Foundation to half of my forearm using the Ultimate Kabuki Brush and buffing it out as usual.
A Quick Cup of Tea
After waiting for several minutes (I made myself a quick cup of tea in the meantime) and allowing the moisturizer to fully absorb and settle into my skin I applied the exact same foundation using the exact same Ultimate Kabuki Brush in the exact same way, and the results (shown below) truly highlight how important this one simple step is in (easily!) achieving smooth and flawless foundation coverage.
Easy Tip
The good news is this tip is so super easy that anyone can do it– you don’t need to be a makeup artist or a beauty expert, all you need is a few minutes and you can easily achieve a gorgeous, even, smooth foundation application!
No Skipping
Don’t skip the moisturizer (or sunscreen) either– keeping your skin hydrated and protected are of course the two very first steps to a smooth and easy foundation application. Mineral makeup (or any makeup) won’t settle as evenly over areas of skin dryness, so making sure to moisturize beforehand is such an important first step. And, of course, with sun damage being responsible for the vast majority of premature ageing and discoloration sunscreen is the #1 best pro-aging skincare product out there– really!
