In my article about zinc oxide, I discussed the many reasons why it is a beneficial mineral for your skin.
Let's turn our attention to another important mineral in mineral makeup, one that goes hand in hand with zinc oxide.
Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide work well in tandem to bring your skin sun protection, excellent coverage & stay-put power.
Titanium dioxide (CI 77891) is a metal oxide, a white, insoluble, highly opaque mineral pigment.
It is found in the earth's crust and forms a mineral UV-A and UV-B filter in addition to its properties as a pigment colorant.
It has many uses, but for today, we will keep to the topic of mineral makeup.
It is used as an opacifying agent - to create coverage.
It has very high refraction properties which helps to reflect light away from the skin, making it one of the best sunscreens you can find.
It is virtually waterproof, brings a matte texture to the table, and has good adhesion.
If you like a mineral makeup that has a built in sunscreen, will stay on even if you jump in the pool and swim a few laps (or cry at commercials like I do), and stays on all day until you take it off, then you want titanium dioxide in your foundation.
